XGL Live CD -- Hacking Journal [2006/03/14]
I had a chance to check out the XGL live CD put out by Kororaa. It booted up and ran perfectly on my desktop here, even with a flaky Nvidia Geforce 4 MX card on it. My first impressions were that it is really nice looking but some of the effects are a little over the top. But we have to understand that XGL is still more of a proof of concept and I am guessing the user will be able to configure how many effects they want. My favorites were the window transparency and how menus seems to fade in/out of the screen. The wobbly windows were pretty cool to look at but would start to slow me down after constant use.
If you have not had a chance to check out XGL Live CD yet, grab it now from one of the mirrors or even from my server. Now for some rest, got a long day of hacking tomorrow.
